Examinations are very delicate and coming from someone who has seen the ins and outs of it, I definitely mean it. I have excelled, passed and failed. Though I do not love the thought of being judged based on examination, we find ourselves in societies where examination is used to determine if you get a degree or not or if you are promoted or not.
As a Christian, it can be devastating to pray, study, sit a paper and fail. This is from a lady who failed and has had to re-sit maths over and over again. A lady who is struggling to get an MSC. The road is never smooth. I just want to share a few verses that you can read and pray with before and during exams.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
I love this verse so much because, it is not man who gives wisdom but God. Imagine if Man was supposed to give wisdom, how much of it can you get or even buy? Hence, I always ask for wisdom from God who will give it generously. And during a period like this, wisdom is always needed.
To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.
Daniel and the other three men attained knowledge and understanding from God, which is what we need during exams. I always pray and ask God that, as He gave to these men, so should he do for me. With all the pressures during exams, one needs to relate with people in the Bible who asked and attained wisdom from God and these men are examples just like Solomon.
Psalm 140: 4
Keep me safe, Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.
This is a serious prayer verse. I mean we all know the devil hates to see our progress hence we ought to keep praying even as we study to write our exams. We never know what he is orchestrating. Failure is not our portion as children of God. So, you use this to pray against sickness and any other plans of the enemy.
2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Fear is one spirit that comes to linger around during exams and it should be taken out before going to sit a paper. It doesn’t help in any way, but it brings failure from every angle and God did not give us the spirit of fear so before studying you pray against it.
Esther 2: 9
She pleased him and won his favour. Immediately he provided her with her beauty treatments and special food.
The whole book of Esther is about the favour of God and during exams one thing to pray for is the favour of God. It is very vital, and I will discuss this in detail in an eBook coming soon. It is important to have the favour of God which will set you apart from your friends. When that lecturer is marking and you have that favour of God trust me it’s very hard for things to go wrong unless you don’t believe in God.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
You may get tired along the way. Things may be rough for you but you need to sit back and know that, through God, you can do it all. Hence when you feel tired whilst at home or in the library, take some time to repeat this verse to yourself and be encouraged.
